| The HKTDC Business Matching service played a significant role in matching up the two technology companies from US and Hong Kong, leading to successful negotiations and a long-term business partnership. |
New Boundary Technologies Inc, a desktop and server management company based in the United States, was looking for a way into the vast Asian market. Its first decision was where to establish a presence. The company chose Hong Kong for one primary reason – the importance of guaranteeing the safety of its intellectual property rights.
“The fact that IP rights are protected to the highest international standards in Hong Kong makes it especially attractive to foreign IT and software companies like ours,” said Kim A Pearson, President and CEO of New Boundary Technologies. “When it comes to the protection of IP rights, an economy’s strong infrastructure and legal system are especially important.”
The next step was to find a partner. As part of a Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) trade mission from Minnesota, New Boundary was able to get help in identifying potential companies for business development. “By capitalising on the HKTDC’s brand of confidence and Business Matching service, doors were opened to both large corporations and small and medium-sized enterprises,” said Mr Pearson.
Face-to-face meetings with Hong Kong companies were arranged through HKTDC’s Business Matching service. “We found all the short-listed companies to be courteous, knowledgeable and professional. Most important, they provided us with timely information on the development of the software market in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland. In fact, the results far exceeded our expectations.”
The Hong Kong company selected by New Boundary Technologies specialises in software development and is an experienced distributor of overseas software products. “The HKTDC Business Matching service played a significant role in finding the right match between the two parties,” said Mr Pearson. “It lead to successful negotiations and a long-term business partnership.”
